I’ve had a passion for baking since my childhood. Some of my earliest, and fondest, memories are of helping my mom bake back home in Kansas City. I’m not sure if I believe it, but I’m told that by the age of 4, I was a natural at decorating cookies. Whether I was good at it or not, I loved it - so much so that in elementary school I would stay home "sick" just so I could cook up recipes from "The Joy of Cooking". (I’m particularly proud of a soufflé I made when I was 10!)

I received my BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Arizona, where I learned that there is as much science in cooking as there is art. After college, an opportunity to model with a top agency opened the door to a life in Manhattan. My early days in New York were spent traveling the world, shooting magazines, commercials and treading runways. (I have to admit that it wasn’t as glamorous as it may seem, but it was definitely fun!) Because of this experience, my cake designs are heavily influenced by fashion and I have an eye for what New Yorkers want.

During this time, I stayed involved with cooking by developing and teaching a "Now you’re Cookin’" class for 2nd & 3rd graders, and was the lead instructor at a day camp in the city. After I retired from modeling, I fulfilled my life long dream of attending culinary school. I studied pastry and cake design at The Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. I cherish this experience because of the formalized training it brought to my intuitive baking style. Immediately after graduation, I landed an apprenticeship with one of the top cake designers in the country.

Soon thereafter, I opened Sugarplum Bakery. From the beginning, my goal has been to provide my customers with high quality, highly imaginative cakes and cupcakes that taste as good as they look. I work with every customer to design the perfect confection for their event, be it a wedding, baby shower, birthday, groom’s party…whatever! I particularly enjoy brainstorming with my clients on ideas, and the creative process to translate our vision into a work of sugar artwork! Whenever possible, I even try to deliver my products, so I can put a face to the voice I’ve worked with so closely. You will find that my fun, bold and modern style is reflected in the designs and concepts you’ll find at Sugarplum Bakery.

Cupcake of the Month: The gift that keeps on giving throughout the year. Every month a seasonal selection of cupcakes are delivered to your clients. Hand-painted leaves or flowers, sparkling sugar snowflakes, hand-crafted gumpaste flip-flops, are among the decorative options that can brighten any day. We can tailor the cupcakes to your vision. Southern Red Velvet: Our signature flavor. Moist and soft of texture with a rich crimson hue. The intermediate amount of cocoa powder pleases both chocolate and not chocolate lovers alike. When matched with our Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting leftovers have never been documented!

Perfect Chocolate: Sweet and moist: a chocoholics dream! Try them with our Hazelnut or White Chocolate Buttercream and/or a berry filling. For a delightfully delicate flavor we recommend Pear or Raspberry Buttercreams.

Espresso Scented Chocolate: Moist and aromatic. A slightly less-sweet chocolate cake with subtle and fragrant coffee notes. Adding Vanilla Buttercream with cherry filling is divine.

Sugar Cookie Yellow Cake: Moist, buttery old fashioned yellow cake that’s just the right amount of sweet. The batter forms a sugary-buttery top crust while baking that reminds us of a sugar cookie. To-die-for good! We love it with our Milk Chocolate Buttercream and berry filling. Lemon Buttercream is another great bet.

Lemon Scented White: Delicate, moist, light with just a hint of lemon. Even the citrus-averse will sing its praises. It pairs beautifully with our Raspberry or Vanilla Buttercreams.

Marble Swirl Cake: Moist, dense crumb. For those who want the best of the chocolate and vanilla worlds! You can’t go wrong with either our Chocolate or Vanilla Buttercreams.

Banana Cake: Super moist crumb. Lightly spiced batter combined with fresh bananas. Chocolate Buttercream = YUM.

Moist Spice Cake: A little sweet, a little nutty, a little spicy. Perfect for the holidays. Toasted nuts and Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting is how we like it!

Carrot Cake: Without a doubt the best carrot cake you will ever taste. Raisins or walnuts? Go crazy and have both! Our Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting was invented to make carrot cake lovers swoon.

Strawberry Cake: Fresh strawberries in the batter lend a subtle sweetness and beautiful pink color. Our light and delicate Vanilla Buttercream compliments it perfectly!

Coconut Cake: Moist, sweet with delectable coconut shavings throughout. You can’t go wrong with a Vanilla-Rum Buttercream.

Angel Food Cupcakes: Perhaps the perfect dessert? A cloud of freshly whipped cream and sliced strawberries atop the most decadent angel food cake imaginable. (only available in cupcakes!)

Please contact us with the date of your event so we can check our calender for availability. Sometimes we are fully booked for a specific date weeks in advance and other weeks we can accommodate next day orders-email or call us and we will let you know if your date is available.

Delivery: We deliver and set up all over the NYC area. Most non-wedding cake deliveries in Manhattan (below 96th Street) are $35. Call for other delivery quotes. Or you can pickup your order from our new cake studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (a short trip on the L train).

Minis: $2.25 each. If you order over 100 they are $2 each (sugar art is extra)
Standard size cupcakes* $3.50 each
Jumbo size: $4.95 each (sugar art is extra)
*Most of our standard size custom cupcakes (with sugar art on top) are between $6 and $12 each. Strawberry shortcake cupcakes are $4.00 each (sugar art is extra).
